Loan account

The loan account keeps track of your transactions and is set up once your loan is approved. You need to take out a new loan (which opens a new loan account) for every year of your studies.

You can borrow up to $1000 in course-related costs as part of your Student Loan.

If you started your current enrolment in 2020 you can borrow up to $2000. This means you enrolled for your course and started studying within 2020. The amount was increased for enrolments and study in 2020 due to COVID-19.

You don't have to borrow the full amount. You also don't need to claim it all at once.

Training Incentive Allowance contribution

The Training Incentive Allowance may affect the amount you can claim for course-related costs. The amount you can borrow for course-related costs is reduced by the amount of Training Incentive Allowance you get (this does not include any Training Incentive Allowance you get for childcare, transport or disability-related costs).

Apply for new course-related costs

You can currently borrow up to $2,000 in course-related costs as part of your Student Loan. This is temporarily increased by $1,000 in response to COVID-19.

The extra amount is only available if you’re studying during 2020. This means you:

  • are already studying in 2020, or
  • will begin studying in 2020.

The extra amount available is a maximum of $1,000, even if you have more than one Student Loan during 2020. You don't have to borrow the full amount. You also don't need to claim it all at once.
